"Take it from me. Olive Oil Lamps are just plain safer, and the fuel is tasty too!"
I have had at least two situations in which death occurred to friends due to a fire caused by a neglected candle. Talk to any fire department, and they will cringe in their tales of just how deadly and destructive a candle can be. A kerosene lamp will cause a room to burst into flames if it is knocked over and the fuel allowed to escape near the flame. These dangers, mixed with the very frequent poisoning of children who imbibe kerosene lamp fuel or liquid paraffin make choosing olive oil as a fuel very attractive.
Olive oil is clean burning, produces no odor, and is not a flash fuel, so if a flame produced by olive oil comes in contact with the oil due to a lamp which tips over, all that happens is that the oil dowses the flame out in most cases. Occasionally a flame may stay lit, but it is generally contained in the lamp and goes out. Olive oil will not poison pets, or children because it is non-toxic.
EVERYONE will burn a flame for light, meditation or romance, ambiance if you will. In a home, hotel or lodge setting, this puts not only the property at risk, but everyone staying there as well along with their possessions.
WOULDN'T IT BE WISER TO JUST OFFER INEXPENSIVE OLIVE OIL LAMPS RIGHT FROM THE START? And, if you have them on hand they will be there for the convenience of everyone should the power go out.
